Grantley Adams International Airport (BGI) was formerly known as Seawell Airport. Just eight miles from the city of Bridgetown, the capital of Barbados, you will find that most travelers will take a bus or tram to their hotel, or will make arrangements in advance to have a rental car delivered to the airport for their use. No national rental car agencies operate out of the airport or the country. Small independent companies are numerous. Some are so small they are run out of a residence. Regardless, they all cost about USD$75.00 per day with unlimited mileage and insurance. The public bus, on the other hand, can get you just about anywhere you want to go on the island. Government busses require exact change, while the minibuses and route taxis are able to make change. Bicycles are also a popular form of transport and once you are free of your luggage and settled in a room, the fairly flat landscape and pleasant weather makes for excellent riding.
