Gimpo International Airport

Formerly known as the Kimpo International Airport, this airport is located at the westernmost portion of Seoul. It is the second biggest airport in the country of Korea, with only Incheon International Airport surpassing it. Gimpo has both international and domestic flights. The international flights that are available at Gimpo are limited. These international flights are primarily limited to Japan/China "City to City" flights. Nippon Airways offers flights from Osaka to Kansai and from Tokyo to Henada. Asiana Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, Japan Airlines, Korean Air and Shanghai Airlines, all contribute to the city-to-city flight plan. Domestic passenger flights include Asiana Airlines, Air Busan, Eastar Jet, Jeju Air, Jin Air, and Korean Air. The Japanese forces originally built the airport during WWII. It became an integral part of the city and Seoul grew around it. This means that the airport is hooked into the public transportation system of Seoul, making it easily accessible. It has three terminals, two of which are domestic.

Incheon International Airport

This airport is located 43 miles outside Seoul. It is the main international airport of the country. It has been ranked the best airport in the entire world for the past three years and has been awarded a prestigious five-star ranking by Skytrx. It opened in 2001 to replace the aging Gimpo International Airport. It serves as the international hub for civilian air transport as well as cargo transportation in East Asia. The airport consists of an exceptionally large terminal. In fact, it is the fifth largest terminal in the world. With more than 40 ports, 50 customs counters, biological quarantine ports and multiple security, departure and arrival areas, this airport is equipped to handle massive amounts of traffic. A concourse was completed in 2008 that only added to the ability of the airport to process passengers. Domestic flights are available through Asiana Airlines and Korean Air. The international flight requirements are taken care of by more than fifty companies. These include: Jeju Air, Korean Air, Aeroflot, Air Astana, Aircalin, Air Canada, Air China, Air France, Air Macau, All Nippon Airway, Cathay Pacific, Cebu Pacific, China Airlines, Delta Airlines Shandong Airlines, Northwest Airlines, Iran Air and many more. Once you land in the airport, there are multiple ground transportation options available for you. These include a railway, train station, express train, cars for hire, taxis and buses all available for transportation. There is also a ferry service available.
