Nepal Visa
United States citizens need a visa to enter the Kingdom of Nepal, a developing country with extensive tourism facilities. A Nepal visa may be obtained in advance from any Royal Nepalese Embassy or Consulate. It may also be issued upon arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu or at any of the official border entry points in the country. However, since the latter option may take several hours, it is advisable to secure a visa before traveling to Nepal.
Regardless of the type of visa required, applicants should submit a passport with remaining validity of at least three months beyond the planned stay in Nepal, return or onward ticket or documents, a completed visa application form, and a passport-size photograph.
Tourists may be issued two-month single entry or multiple entry visas for 15, 30, or 90 days. Visitors may opt to extend their visa upon payment of the necessary fee, which is computed on a daily rate. Tourists may stay in this destination for a maximum duration of 150 days in any given calendar year.
Foreign nationals who plan to conduct business or any commercial activity at any portion of their stay in Nepal are required to obtain a business visa. Multiple entry facilities for business visas are available for one year and five years, but these require a recommendation from the Ministry of Industry.
Regardless of the duration of their stay in Nepal, all foreigners have to pay an airport exit tax upon departure from the international airport in Kathmandu.
