Singapore Visa
Singapore issues an entry visa to travel document holders of counties that fall under Assessments Level 1 and Level 2.
Level 1 Countries
Travelers having ordinary passports issued by the following Level I Countries are required to get either a Business or Social Visit visa to enter Singapore: India, Myanmar, Nigeria, People's Republic of China (PRC), Commonwealth of Independent States, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan. Citizens of Hong Kong, Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) need a travel permit.
Level 2 Countries
Travelers having ordinary passports issued by the following Assessment Level II Countries are required either a Business or Social Visit visa to enter Singapore: Afghanistan, Algeria, Bangladesh, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, and Yemen.
Except for a letter from the traveler's employer (if he or she is employed), Singapore Visa requirements for Level 2 countries are the same as Level 1 countries.
Meanwhile, holders of Diplomatic, Official and Service passports are exempted from visa requirements. Holders of Diplomatic, Official, Service and Public Affairs passports are exempted from visa requirements for a stay of up to 30 days. No visa is required of US citizens for a stay not exceeding 30 days.
Requirements for Social Visit (visiting friends, relatives, and for tourism)
Anyone from the Level 1 Countries listed above who wants a Social Visit Visa to Singapore should present these documents:
- Filled out Forms 14A (original);
- One recent passport-sized color photograph (to be pasted on the top right-hand corner of Form 14A) which should have the following:
- Photograph must be have been taken within the last 3 months,
- Photograph should be in color, against a white background with a matt or semi-matt finish,
- Your photo should show your full face and without any headgear (headgear worn because of religious or racial customs is acceptable but must not hide the face);
- Photocopy of the applicant's valid (must be valid for more than 6 months when presented) passport bio-data page;
- Checklist 4 attached to Form 14A;
- Identification Cards of Local contacts in Singapore (original and photocopy);
- Completed Form V39A (Letter of Application for Singapore Visa);
- Letter from the applicant's employer granting leave of absence and stating how long the applicant has been working for the firm, his/her position and salary if he/she is employed; or a copy of the household booklet if he/she is a China national and is unemployed.
Requirements for Business Visit
Business tourists in Singapore should be ready with these documents:
Completed, original Form 14A;
- One recent passport-sized color photograph (to be pasted on the top right-hand corner of Form14A) which meets these conditions:
- Image must be taken within the last 3 months,
- A color photograph taken against a white background with a matt or semi-matt finish,
- Your photo should show your full face and without any headgear (headgear worn because of religious or racial customs is acceptable but must not hide the face),
- Photocopy of the applicant's passport must be valid for more than 6 months when presented) bio-data page;
- Checklist 4 attached to Form 14A;
- Completed Form V39A (Letter of Application for Singapore Visa);
- Computer printout of the Singapore registered company's detailed business profile (showing the names of all the founders and partners) from the Instant Information Service, Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA) and printed within the last 3 months.
US Citizens who want to stay longer in Singapore for reasons other than travel should go directly to the Singapore Embassy or Consulate in their home country.
Travel Permits
Visa free travelers to Singapore have to undergo immigration clearance on arrival.
If you're going to Singapore on a social call, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers issue social visit passes upon arrival. Visitors must meet the following basic entry requirements before they are allowed to the country:
A passport with at least 6 months validity; a valid Singapore visa (if applicable); sufficient funds to last for the desired period of stay in Singapore; validated onward/return tickets (if applicable); entry facilities to their destinations (e.g. visas and related documents --if applicable).
The length of stay is stamped on the social visit pass endorsement given on the visitor's passport. Visitors should check their passports for the arrival endorsement and note the number of days stay given before leaving the checkpoint.
