Taiwan Visa

Nationals of the following countries can stay in Taiwan for a maximum of 30 days without a visa: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Monaco, the Netherlands , New Zealand, Norway, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia , Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland. While UK and Japanese passport holders are given 90 days.

Visitor Visa holders who have been granted a 60 or 90-day stay in Taiwan may apply for an extension. They can get a maximum stay of 90 to 120 days.

US Citizens

American citizens do not need a tourist visa in Taiwan for a period of 30 days. The stay, however, is non-extendable. No business visa is required either within a non-extendable 14-day stay.

Tourist Visa

US citizens who want to get a tourist visa in Taiwan need these documents:

- A U.S. Passport valid for more than 6 months beyond the stay
- Fully filled out and signed 1 Visa Application Form
- 2 Passport-size photographs
- Copy of round-trip airline tickets
- Letter explaining purpose of trip and plans for the stay in Taiwan

Business Visa

American citizens who want to get a business visa in Taiwan should present the following:

- Original, signed United States passport with at least 6 months of remaining validity
- Two Passport-type photographs
- Copy of round trip tickets or itinerary
- A business letter from the sending company in the US. The letter should be printed on the company letterhead, addressed to "The Consulate of Taiwan, Visa Section", and signed by a senior executive (an equivalent to Vice-President or higher). The business letter must briefly introduce the applicant (with specific employment status/position held in the company by applicant), state the details of the business to be conducted (i.e. meetings, contract negotiations, etc.), the names and addresses of firms to be contacted in Taiwan, and spell out the type of desired validity of the visa (i.e. a one year multiple entry business visa, etc).
- Guarantee of sufficient funds for travel.

Requirements for a Taiwan Visa

Visa-free tourists who want to go to Taiwan should meet these conditions:

- A passport valid for at least six months
- A validated return air ticket and a visa for the next destination, and a confirmed air seat reservation for departure
- Clear criminal record, as proven by the airport or seaport police
- Up to 14 days of stay, starting from the day of arrival (with no extension)
- Arrive at one of the following locations: C.K.S. International Airport, Kaohsiung International Airport, Keelung Harbor, Hualien Harbor, Taichung Harbor, and Kaohsiung Harbor.

Taiwan Resident Visa Requirements

The Taiwan resident visa is required of those who plan to study, work or live in Taiwan. The requirements are:

- Passport with at least six months validity remaining;
- Two recent passport photos;
- Completed application form (front and back);
- Name and address of sponsor who lives in Taiwan, ROC;
- Letter of invitation, employment agreement, work permit approval, or enrollment confirmation from a firm in Taiwan.
- Pay fee of $100.00 for single or multiple entry.

All applicants should include a self-addressed, stamped envelope. The Taiwan resident visa is good two months or more. It should be authorized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of The Republic of China.
