Major Airports Serving Bohol
At present, only the Tagbilaran Airport is operational since the Panglao Island International Airport is still under construction. The Tagbilaran Airport is classified as a secondary airport, the equivalent to a minor commercial domestic airport and serves the city of Tagbilaran itself in addition to being the starting point for getting around the surrounding municipalities.
Amenities within the Tagbilaran Airport include basic facilities such as toilets and telephones, a covered lounge for friends and family meeting the passengers and a single terminal. As in most airports, checked-in luggage will be picked up at the conveyor area. Travelers should note that security measures apply even in a small airport such as Tagbilaran City. Liquids such as wines and perfumes must be placed in checked-in luggage and are not allowed in carryon bags.
To get to Bohol by plane travelers may come in from the cities of Cebu or Manila. From Cebu it is a 25-minute flight from the Mactan International Airport to the Tagbilaran Airport and there are several daily flights on the three major airlines that fly to Tagbilaran to choose from. From Manila it is a two hour domestic flight originating from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport. With flights serviced by airlines such as Cebu Pacific travelers may be offered discounts depending on the season. Flights often change without prior notice and travelers are advised to check with the airlines to keep up to date on schedules.
With Cebu Pacific operating at the Tagbilaran Airport, finding cheap flights into the city is very easy and travelers may check in with the airline or its various ticketing agents. Booking flights in advance and purchasing round-trip tickets often help lower the ticket prices. Many airlines such as Philippine Airlines and Zest Airways offer their own promotional discounts and travelers are encourage to first call to get specific rates for their desired arrival and departure dates and to compare prices and services before making a decision. Since Tagbilaran City has modern telephone services, not to mention satisfactory transportation modes, asking around for the best rates should not pose too much difficulty.
Panglao Island International Airport, currently under construction, is intended as an international airport to accommodate Bohol's commerce and tourist industries.
