Major Airports Serving Quezon City

Presently, there is only one airport in the vicinity of the Metro Manila area of which Quezon City is a part. This airport is the world-class Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), named after a martyred Filipino hero, located approximately 30 minutes away from Quezon City.

The NAIA is the country's main aviation gateway that services more than 30 domestic and international airlines plying over 50 local and global destinations. To facilitate passenger arrivals and departures, the airport is divided into three terminals: NAIA Terminal, Domestic Terminal and the Centennial Terminal.

The NAIA Terminal caters to all international flights of all airplanes not belonging to the Philippine Airlines fleet. The Domestic Terminal carries all domestic flights of airplanes not belonging to Philippine Airlines, which include Cebu Pacific, Air Philippines and PAL Express. It must be noted that the latter two are subsidiaries of Philippine Airlines. The Centennial Terminal is devoted exclusively for all Philippine Airlines' domestic and international flights.

Just like with most international airports nowadays, security measures are strictly implemented. There are numerous security checks for both individuals and baggage, which can range from x-ray machines to handheld sensors and hand searches. Also, the NAIA can be filled with returning overseas Filipino workers during holidays and the summer season, so be prepared to deal with more hassles than usual.

Fortunately, greeters are not permitted to enter the airport without special permission, so arriving and departing passengers will have more room inside the terminals. Basic amenities exist including air-conditioned lounges for VIPs.

Once you exit the airport itself, many taxis and jeepneys ply the route. Passengers are cautioned against taxi drivers who will take advantage of unknowing passengers, so it's always best to opt for the metered taxis.

Aside from the NAIA, the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (DMIA) in Angeles City also serves Metro Manila as well as the Clark Special Economic Zone. It is envisioned to replace the NAIA as the main aviation gateway to the Philippines by the year 2010.
