Getting to t_tag

The easiest way to get to Bolivia is to fly there on one of the many direct or indirect flights. The cheapest cities to fly into are Santa Cruz Viru Viru, La Paz, Cochabamba, Puerto Suarez, and Sucre. The least expensive flights are offered by American Airlines (ICAO - AAL, IATA - AA), AeroSur airlines (ICAO - RSU, IATA - 5L) and LAN Airlines (ICAO - LAN, IATA - LA). The cheapest flights often take routes through Chile and Peru.

Airports

The country has two major international airports. Viru Viru International Airport (VVI -IATA, SLVR - ICAO) located in Santa Cruz de la Sierra is the country's largest international airport and is the main gateway for international flights. It can handle even the largest commercial jets. El Alto International Airport (LPB - IATA, SLLP - ICAO) located near La Paz city serves both domestic and international traffic. It acts as a hub for the AeroSur airlines, Bolivia's largest private airline.

Smaller airports like Jorge Wilstermann International Airport (CBB - IATA, SLCB - ICAO) and the Juana Azurduy de Padilla International Airport (SRE - IATA, SLSU - ICAO) are also perfect for many travelers because they are very close to Cochabamba and Sucre respectively. Both these cities have many tourist attractions and are directly connected by a number of international flights.

Airlines

AeroSur is the country's major airline with planes like, Boeing 727-200, 737-200, 737-300, 747-300, 747-400 and 767-200ER, with a schedule that offers both direct and indirect flights. They use the Boeing 767-200ER for flights on the Santa Cruz-Miami-Santa Cruz route.

Other Money-Saving Tips

Usually the peak season for tourism starts in June and continues through the month of August to early September. This peak season includes all the major European as well as North American summer holidays, and most of the major Bolivian festivals happen during this time, so all prices are generally higher. The period from May to October is the non-peak season and is the cheapest time to fly to Bolivia. Flying on weekdays is cheaper and less crowded, and some airlines offer additional discounts for advance booking.

In Closing

Bolivia is the perfect destination for a vacation. The large number of attractions and enjoyable weather make for an excellent combination, just perfect for couples or families.
