Mumbai is served by the busiest international airport called Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, formerly known as Sahar International Airport. This airport has received an award for being the Best Airport in India. Consisting of two main terminals, Terminal 1(Santa Cruz) serves domestic flights and Terminal 2 (Sahar) serves international flights. These two terminals together are called Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport. Sahar International airport is located in Sahar, east of the suburbs of Andheri and Santa Cruz airport is located in the east of Santa Cruz. There is a free shuttle service provided by the airport authority for connecting travelers to commute between these two terminals.
Terminal 1 is divided into two terminals, Terminal 1A and Terminal 1B based upon the domestic airlines they cater to. Terminal 1A caters to Alliance Airlines, Indian Airlines and Kingfisher Airlines while Terminal 1B caters to Jet Lite, Kingfisher Red, Go Air, Indigo, Jet Airways and SpiceJet. Terminal 2 is also divided into two terminals, Terminal 2B and Terminal 2C serving approximately 50 international airlines. Terminal 2B serves British Airways, Northwest Airlines, Lufthansa, Cathay Pacific, Swiss and other international carriers while Terminal 2C serves Air France, Air India, Air Mauritius, Continental, Singapore Airlines, Thai airways and many more.
There are many facilities at the airport such as ATM services, medical services, inter-terminal transfer services and food courts. The airport is located a distance of 18 miles from the main city and can be reached by taking prepaid taxi services located at the airport.
