Travel Guide to Edmonton

Airports serving Edmonton, Canada

Edmonton International Airport (YEG), its primary airport, is located about 16 miles south-southwest of the city center. Home to 18 commercial and low-cost airlines, flights to and from major U.S. and Central and South American cities are readily available. Amazingly, YEG experiences ideal flying conditions almost year-round. In the last 10 years the airport has only been shut down for 3 hours due to heavy snowfall and 99% of the year is fog-free.

Edmonton City Centre (Blatchford Field) Airport (YXD) is situated in the heart of Edmonton, bordered by Yellowhead Trail and Kingsway to the north and south, and by 121 Street and the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology to the west and east. The Alberta Aviation Museum is on site, as well as two hotels and a cafeteria. YXD is currently used for mostly charter flights and a decision has been made for a phased-out closure. The North-South Runway has been shut down, with the East-West to be closed at a later date.
