Vancouver International Airport (YVR) is the primary airport and is located a little over seven miles from downtown Vancouver. It is the second busiest airport in Canada with yearly volumes approaching 18 million passengers. You can get to and from this airport by bus, taxi, limo, train, bicycle or shuttle. Major providers such as Alamo, Hertz, Avis, and Budget service your car rental requirements. The airport features a four diamond hotel, a children's area, internet access, a wide range of shops and boutiques including a duty-free shop and a Vancouver 2010 Olympic merchandise store. Services include spas, banking, a lounge, travel services, a post office, and a wide variety of dining choices. A number of low-cost carriers, such as CanJet, Air North, WestJet and Air Transat service this airport.
Abbotsford International Airport (YXX) is located in Abbotsford, BC, just two and a half miles southwest of the center of Vancouver. This airport, for the most part, functions as a reliever airport for YVR. It is also classified as an 'airport of entry', but agents there can only handle general aviation aircraft with no more than 15 passengers. Tour operators also fly out of this airport.
Vancouver Harbour Water Airport, a.k.a. Vancouver Coal Harbour Seaplane Base (CXH) is within walking distance of Waterfront Station and Helijet heliport, both part of Vancouver's public transit system. This airport only services seaplanes, but if taking a tour; you may have the opportunity to experience the excitement of a seaplane landing.
Vancouver International Water Airport (does not have an IATA designation code). Used by floatplanes, they can easily be transferred to YVR by using a ramp and gate. This airport is used primarily for general aviation and though classified as an airport of entry, agents can only handle flights carrying less than 15 passengers.
Boundary Bay Airport (YDT) is located close to the U.S. Border, about 14 miles south of Vancouver in Delta, BC. This airport handles mostly general aviation, but also has facilities for aircraft maintenance, flight training, and air traffic control training.
Langley Regional Airport (YNJ) is also a general aviation airport. Located in Langley Township, it is about 32 miles southeast of Vancouver. Scheduled passenger service to Victoria Airport Water Aerodome is available, as are helicopter landings. The airport has three helipads and only one airline, Harbour Air Seaplanes.
