Many travelers to California prefer Sacramento to get relatively cheaper round trip airfare from different parts of the country.

Southwest regularly provides one of the cheapest roundtrip airfares within California while Jet Blue also offers ultra low fares from New York and the surrounding vicinity. Other major airlines include Delta, which has non-stop flights to Salt Lake City and Atlanta while Continental and American airlines mostly serve the Texas region. Travelers to Texas can find good deals to Houston due to the competition among various airlines. US Airways, Northwest and Alaska Airlines operate regular daily flights to their respective destinations in the United States with low cost carriers such as Frontier and Horizon completing the list of local airlines. Mexican national airlines, Mexicana, flies to popular destinations on the west coast of Mexico and was also the airline that gave Sacramento its international airport status.

The new terminal was recently renovated and includes a variety of restaurants for visitors and the public.
