Travel Guide to Phoenix

Airports Serving Phoenix, Arizona

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) is the busiest airport in the state of Arizona and the one that most travelers choose. Located three miles west of the central district of Phoenix, it is a joint civil-military public airport. AirTrans, Delta Connection, Frontier, JetBlue, Northwest and Southwest are the lowest-cost carriers that operate out of Sky Harbor, though many carriers offer competitive rates due to the high traffic and economical fares in and out of this airport. Not only are rental cars an option, but the Valley Metro serves the airport, as well as the METRO Light Rail that has a station nearby with free shuttles to and from the airport. Sky Harbor has plans in place for an automated people mover that will connect the METRO Light Rail with the terminals.

Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport (AZA) was formerly part of Williams Air Force Base and is now considered a reliever airport in order to relieve congestion or take flights in the event of an emergency closure at Sky Harbor. Located just 20 miles southeast of Phoenix, Mesa may offer much lower priced accommodations. Allegiant Air is the resident airline, so check those low-cost fares that may be available.
