Travel Guide to Houston
Airports serving Houston, Texas
George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) serves the Greater Houston area and is located 20 miles north of Downtown Houston. A class B international airport, IAH has five terminals, two of which are used exclusively for international arrivals and departures. TerminaLink, an above ground train, connects terminals for 'passenger-friendly' connections to other flights, not requiring you to go through security procedures more than once. An underground inter-terminal train also runs, but is outside the 'sterile zone', requiring additional security screening. From the airport you can take the bus, a courtesy van, a regularly scheduled shuttle, a taxi or a rental car.
William P. Hobby (HOU) is more commonly known as Houston Hobby. This airport handles domestic traffic and charter business. This alternative to IAH is much smaller, but also offers many more low-cost airline options. JetBlue, Southwest, AirTran and American Eagle all have scheduled service here. This much smaller and more easily navigable airport is served by all of the major rental car companies. Located just eight miles from the business district of Houston, this may prove to be a more amenable option for business travelers, though vacationers may experience a significant cost-savings and still have access to the rental car of their choice.
